Atilla Okan

Vita

In 1995, he graduated from Ege University State Turkish Music Conservatory (STMC) Instrument Making Department in String Instruments. In the same year, he started working as a lecturer at his school.

In 2001, he completed his master's degree at the Turkish World Institute, Department of Turkish Folklore.

In 2003, he participated in the workshop titled "The Art of Violin Making" which was coordinated by Ecevit Tunali.

In 2004, he worked at Ecevit Tunali Workshop on violin making and restoration.

As of 2006, the violins which he made were presented as a reward in the National Gülden Turali Violin Contests organized by Mersin University State Conservatory

In 2007, he worked as a workshop practitioner in the ‘’First Violin Making Days" in which the coordinator was Ecevit Tunali, organized by Mersin University State Conservatory

In 2008, he took part in the violin workshop at the ‘’First International Nuri Iyicil Violin Competition’’

In 2009, he worked as a workshop practitioner in the ‘’Second Violin Making Days" in which the coordinator was Ecevit Tunali, organized by Mersin University State Conservatory

In 2013, he was appointed as the head of Ege University STMC Instrument Making Department-String Instruments. He continued this task until 2016

In 2014, in the workshop of 'Julie Reed Yeboah Restoration and Consultation' located in New York, USA, he made observations and studies on the old Italian violins and the restoration techniques applied on these violins

Okan, uses the models of traditional Italian producers in the violins he made in his studio

He is still working as a lecturer at Ege University STMC, Department of Instrument Making

Atilla Okan lives in Izmir with his lovely wife Hanife and sweet daughter Su.
