Antonio Stradivari 1727 VL Halphen, Benvenuti
It is rare to find references to the violin known as ‘Halphen’ or ‘Benvenuti’ in the literature dedicated to Stradivari because, having had only two owners in more than 150 years, the instrument was never publicly auctioned or exhibited. The Hills mentioned it as being in the possession of ‘M. Halphen’ and Ernest N. Doring recorded a concurring opinion. However, the violin is a fine example of the Cremonese master’s work, in well-preserved physical condition and still bears its original label with the production date listed as 1727.
