Antonio Stradivari 1729 ca. VL Maurin, Rubinoff
The ‘Maurin’ is an interesting example of Stradivari’s mature production, and it still bears the label ‘Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis/ Faciebat Anno 172–’, of which the last handwritten figure is not discernible. Despite the date on the label, Ernest N. Doring, William Henley and Herbert K. Goodkind recorded the instrument with a production date of 1731, while the violin dealer Jacques Français noted it as ‘most likely Omobono’.
