Antonio Stradivari 1704 VL Liebig, Schneiderhan
The Liebig still bears its original label which reads: ‘Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1704’ and was initially named after the Viennese Baron Liebig, who apparently maintained possession of the instrument until the end of his life, around 1930–31. The violin subsequently borrowed another ‘nom de guerre’ from the Austrian violin virtuoso Wolfgang Eduard Schneiderhan (1915–2002), who owned and played it in the second half of the 20th century.
