Antonio Stradivari 1717 VL Hämmerle, Baumgartner
Not much is known about this charming specimen made during Stradivari’s ‘Golden Period’. The violin bears an original label that reads ‘Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1717’, and it is named after two of its past owners, the renowned Viennese textile industrialist, patron and collector Theodor Hämmerle (1859–1930) and the Swiss conductor and violinist Rudolf Baumgartner (1917–2002), who founded the Lucerne Festival Strings chamber orchestra with Wolfgang Schneiderhan in 1956.
