Luigi Cardi
Vita
Luigi Cardi was the only 19th-century luthier working in Verona whose works are still known today. Between 1827 and 1904 his workshop produced not only string instruments, but also pianos. Cardi's works are powerful and finished in an artistically simple manner. The few known instruments produce a highly convincing quality of sound.
The colour of the varnish varies from a golden yellow to the intense red of the Venetian school. Indeed, a number of his instruments demonstrate the proximity of the Venetian school, through the use of triple purfling and a higher curvature of the belly and back.
