Die ersten Strad-Bände nehme ich übrigens gerne als Farb-Referenz zum Lack mischen. Öfters hatte ich hier in London die Gelegenheit, die Original Instrumente mit den Abbildungen in Deinem Buch zu vergleichen. Die Übereinstimmung der Farben ist überwältigend! Vielen Dank dafür!

The publication of the Stradivarius Corps which carried out by Mr. Thone is without a doubt an outstanding event both in the historiography of the making of bow instruments and in the polygraphy. These magnificent albums in terms of coverage of the material, as well as its format, information content, quality of the publication are unique, not having analogues in the bibliography of instruments not only Stradivarius, but also other masters. Especially it's worth saying that a number of instruments contained in the edition was published for the first time. I’m sure that this titanic work of Mr. Thone will be appreciated not only by professional violin makers and musicians, but also by all enthusiasts of the technique and history of creating excellent instruments, music lovers and, of course, dealers. Hope that Mr. Thone will not stop there, and the second issue will be an intermediate result on the way to creating a comprehensive Stradivarius Corps, which will include all the instruments of the great Italian known today.

These are enormous books, they cover the whole span of Antonio Stradivari's output with many fine samples. The photography and printing are utterly exquisite. A must have for violinmakers and connoisseurs to study this subject seriously. Don't be intimidated by the books' weight - open them up!

As a maker, the detailed photographs and data included with each instrument have really helped my perspective on each period of Strad's work.
