Antonio Stradivari 1681 VL Count de Lachenais, Reynier

This instrument, which belongs to the Cremonese master’s early production, has often been praised for its pristine condition. It still bears an original label dated 1681 and it is named after two of its owners of the past, the cultured amateur Count de Lachenais of Marseille, France who according to Alfred Hill1 also had in his possession an excellent piece of work by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, and the French violinist Léon Reynier (1833–1895), who was considered a wunderkind in his day, and studied at the Conservatoire de Paris where he was awarded a prize in 1847.
