Antonio Stradivari 1728 VL Perkin

The ‘Perkin’ is a well-preserved instrument built by Stradivari in 1728, as confirmed by its label, which reads ‘Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis/Faciebat Anno 1728’. This label also bears an inscription by the Spanish priest Dom. Vicenzo Ascensio who, in addition to his spiritual calling, had a strong passion for the art of fiddle-making, as is evidenced by the fact that he repaired the violin in 1780. The instrument takes its name from the English chemist William Henry Perkin (1838–1907), who at the age of eighteen discovered the aniline dye. Aside from his profession, Mr. W. H. Perkin was interested in painting and photography, and he was also an enthusic amateur player.
