Antonio Stradivari 1711 VL Earl of Plymouth, Kreisler

Almost every year the press reports the discovery of a Stradivari in an attic or some other forgotten places, and the instrument often turns out to be a copy, usually of bad quality. Since the beginning of the 20th century, only a few authentic examples of the Cremonese master’s work have been found. The ‘Earl of Plymouth’ is one of them. For almost two hundred years it rested in a case in the storage room of the Earl’s manor house, in the neighbourhood of Cardiff in Wales. What’s more, its pristine and flawless condition turned the rare discovery into an exceptional event.
