Antonio Stradivari 1702 VL Brodsky
This violin, which belongs to Stradivari’s ‘Golden Period’, bears an original label dated 1702 and is named after the Russian violinist Adolph Davidovich Brodsky (1851–1922). Over the course of his successful career Mr. A. Brodsky was, amongst other things, the concertmaster of the New York Symphony Orchestra, and professor of the Moscow Conservatory and of the Royal Manchester College of Music, which is today called Royal Northern College of Music. This institution preserves some of Mr. A. Brodsky’s most valuable documents and letters, but curiously enough, there is no mention of this violin among them, and so far, it has not been possible to prove his ownership.
